Ruth and Gary Pelphrey will be hosting our November Wine Club on Friday, November 17th and the Theme is Thanksgiving is time for American Wine. They will be preparing a Roasted Turkey to go along with our tasting, so please bring a side to compliment, or an appetizer.
There’s not a right or wrong wine to drink with your Thanksgiving meal, but there are some that will elevate the senses. If your leaning toward the Reds, a light in body Pinot Noir from Washington or Oregon is always a good bet. A nice spicy Zinfandel will definitely kick things up a notch. For Whites a fuller bodied Chardonnay ( California, support those vineyards in Sonoma and Napa so disrupted by the recent fires), they are just begging for the rich dishes accompanying that Turkey. Or a Washington state Dry Riesling will nicely cut threw some of those rich dishes with its high acidity. Gewürztraminer is a highly aromatic wine with just a touch of warm spice, begging for some Turkey fixin’s. Some good varieties are coming out of the Finger Lakes region of New York. As always, when in doubt ask your wine merchant for suggestions.
