Quarries Update

The Hyde Park Baptist Church-Five Neighborhoods Coordinating Committee (HPBC) met June 10.   The next meeting will be August 26.

Construction Update

Construction of Phase 1 started on May 13.  This phase includes the Mopac driveway, infrastructure (water, sewer, etc.) and interior driveways.  The scope of work for this phase has been expanded to include landscape berms behind homes along Flagstaff Dr. and Balcones Woods Dr., and three parking lots.

A proposal has been made to request the contractor building the Mopac driveway to place boulders behind and around the barrier at the end of Balcones Woods Dr. in order to preclude vehicles from going through that area to access the drive after its completion.  The Balcones Woods Board of Directors will consider this proposal at their next meeting.  Suggestions should be made to a board member or to Tom Terry.

The "pounding" of rock breaking equipment in the Quarries area should be ending by the middle of July.

Use of Quarries

Reminder - the Quarries area is closed for use by unauthorized personnel during the construction.  Summer league softball is being played in the Quarries.

Other Issues

The coordination committee is working out a plan for coordination of large events in the Quarries.  This effort will give the neighborhoods advance notice of meetings and a chance to voice concerns and work out potential conflicts.  Also, points of contact for both the neighborhoods and HPBC will be named for issues arising during the events.

Information Sources

For information regarding the Quarries, visit the HPBC web site and our own Balcones Woods site.  The Mesa Park site has an extensive collection of documents and will soon contain minutes of the coordination committee meetings.  www.main.org/mpna

Our Appreciation!

Our appreciation to Billy Glasscock and Aubrey Moore, and the BWC Board of Directors for getting t  getting the city to clean out the drainage ditch which runs between the lower reaches of Alhambra and the commercial property behind.  The purpose of the clean-out is to prevent flooding of adjacent properties.

Are you new to the neighborhood?  We have BWC care packages for new neighbors, but we don’t always know when someone new moves in.   If you've got a scoop, please call Nikki at 502-8726.

Take Care of your Pets

With extreme temperatures here, it’s doubly important to make sure your dog stays where he or she is supposed to, either inside your home or backyard.  Please take a minute each day to ensure doors are closed and gates locked.  In addition to rabies tags, every dog and cat should have a tag with its name, your address and phone number.  These tags are available at any pet store.  By simply taking a few precautions, you can keep your pets safe.

And take care of your Car Battery

Ninety and 100-degree temperatures can dry out your car’s battery water fast.  Be sure to check water levels in your battery.  Even some so called “maintenance-free” batteries often need water.
