The 5 Neighborhoods United/Hyde Park Baptist Church coordinating committee met Jan. 12, 2004. Following items were discussed:
Construction.
Phase I (Infastructure) is complete.
Phase II (Athletic fields) is substantially complete with some siding and touch-up still to be done on the dugouts.
Phase III (Christian Life Center), which was previously approved by City staff and council on the original zoning variance site plan, was approved for construction by the Church congregation.
The next step is City construction permitting. Ground breaking is tentatively set for Easter Sunday with Dec. 31, 2004 being the target date for completion. Neighborhood representatives will be invited to the groundbreaking, probably the board members or President and the event will probably be open to the public. Details were not discussed, but, the groundbreaking is not planned as a big event.
Scheduled Events. There will be a Church related event during the Easter weekend. Details were not provided and it is not planned as a large function. HPBC will play their home baseball games at the Quarries . Schedule and times are not available yet, but, they are very aware of agreed upon time-of-day restrictions.
General Observations. I have walked the Quarries area. I think the area is well laid out and a nice compliment to our neighborhoods. The new athletic lighting appears to be directed inward and downward as much as possible and should not pose much if any nuisance during night events. Committee members remain cordial and we continue to have a very good and open working relationship between the 5NU and HPBC.
Access: Please remember that the Quarries is officially still not open to the public due to construction insurance limitations. The next committee meeting is scheduled for March 29, 2004, 7PM at Seton NW Contacts: For additional information or issues please contact: Tom Terry Day 459-6820 tomkterry@hotmail.com
