Quarries Update: The Hyde Park Baptist Church-Five Neighborhoods Coordinating Committee met October 28, 2002. Highlights of the meeting follow. The next meeting will be January 13, 2003.
Construction Update: Construction of the Mopac to Quarries driveway and the infrastructure in the Quarries itself is running on schedule despite the rain and the heavy construction work should be complete by the end of November. Thereafter, while there may be some activity in the area, heavy construction for the initial phase will be complete.
HPBC has not finalized plans or funding for the next construction phase, a storage building and the Christian Life Center and there is no start date for additional construction.
Use of Quarries: Reminder - the Quarries area is closed for use by unauthorized personnel during the construction. Fall league softball is scheduled to be played in the Quarries as well as normal Hyde Park school sports events. Info. on these events can be found at <http://www.hpbc.org/rec/>.
Other Issues:
The coordination committee is still working out a plan for coordination of large events in the Quarries. This effort will give the neighborhoods advance notice of large special events and a chance to voice concerns and work out potential conflicts. Also, points of contact for both the neighborhoods and HPBC will be named for issues arising during the events.
HPBC School. There has been a discussion about what grades will eventually occupy the planned school building in the Quarries. Some residents of other neighborhoods thought the school would be restricted to high school, grades 9-12, only. HPBC clarified that they consider the facility to be a 'Secondary' school which they define as grades 7 through 12. Tentative plans are to place grades 9-12 at the Quarries and other grades are under consideration. Regardless of the grades involved, the school will be limited to 600 students.
Information Sources: There are several good sources of information regarding the Quarries including the HPBC web site and our own Balcones Woods site. The Mesa Park site has an extensive collection of documents and will soon contain minutes of the coordination committee meetings. www.main.org/mpna
