Capital Metro has begun service of its fast-moving, quiet, MetroRail trains.
This is an exciting time for us, and we look forward to beginning full passenger service. However, we recognize that there are some very important safety reminders that we need to emphasize. Please remember to use caution when crossing the train tracks. The new Capital MetroRail trains will be traveling as fast as a car and are almost as quiet. Your safety is in your hands.

Passage of Lawn Parking Ordinance: 2002
On a vote of
5-2, the Austin City Council approved the
ordinance which bans parking on lawns. This ordinance will be applicable only in the
neighborhoods who have petitioned to be included. Balcones Woods and Mesa Park
are both included in the ordinance.
APD will enforce this ordinance and is still working through its procedure. From
previous meetings with APD, APD is not going to go looking for vehicles parked
on lawns but will rely on complaints to APD (recommend dialing 311 to report
this) which in all likelihood will be addressed by the District Rep.
This has been
an arduous task for those involved and the City Council has only complicated
this issue. Neighborhoods who are currently part of the ordinance will have to
resubmit paperwork to the City in February to continue as a part of the
ordinance. Then there is a 3 year time effective time of the ordinance. The
City Council is hoping that the Neighborhood planning process will then be in
place to address this item.
