Announcing a Fund-raising Effort to Benefit the Balcones Woods Neighborhood.
According to a letter from the neighborhood association board of directors, Balcones Woods Club is moving forward to complete a significant remodel of the swimming pool commons area, and pending final approval of the board, the project could get underway at the end of this year. The total cost of the project is still being finalized, and to help offset that cost, the board expects to assess a fee for the Blue Wave Swim Team’s use of the facility. In response, the Swim Team has formed a “Make it Happen” fund-raising campaign to cover those anticipated fees and pay them “up front” rather than over time. Every homeowner is invited to participate in the campaign because the new building will benefit our entire neighborhood.
Why is the neighborhood making these improvements?
Over the years, the swimming pool commons area has become the heartbeat of our community. But the aging facility is well overdue for a remodeling that will make it more efficient and safe. In a 2005 neighborhood poll, a majority of respondents expressed an interest in building a new clubhouse.
Why donate to the Swim Team instead of the neighborhood association?
The Swim Team is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization and is eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions according to the IRS. The neighborhood association is not a charitable organization and is not eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions.
How much needs to be raised?
Based on the estimated usage fees, the campaign set a goal of $100,000 in cash and pledges to be raised by September 2008. The good news is that so far the campaign has raised over $40,000 as of July 29th.
How much should I give?
That’s up to you. Any amount will help. As an example, if we were to estimate a “cost per home” for the entire neighborhood to raise $100,000, it would be about $200 per family. Some will give more, others less. All contributions are tax deductible.
What can I do?
Get involved! More than raising money, the campaign is an opportunity for the entire neighborhood to volunteer and come together for a common purpose.
